The Weekend I Wished I Lived In Alaska & Was An Acrobat

It feels like I spent the weekend in hell. And, no, I assure I'm not being overly dramatic.

For those of you who don't know, SoCal isn't all nice weather & beautiful beaches. In fact, a lot of SoCal has pretty shitty weather. Particularly the part I live in because it's the desert, aka: no one wants to there cause it's hotter than balls hence why the rent is SO affordable.

A must have to living in this area, much like Nevada or Texas, is central air conditioning.

Which we had, until Saturday morning when I woke up drenched in sweat wondering why the fuck my room felt like it was cooking me alive. Turns out a/c's compressor has a hole in it, causing it to leak all the freon & be of no more use to us than a fucking refrigerator magnet.

So I've talked to the landlord & she's supposed to get us a whole new a/c unit...soon.

*sigh* It's only supposed to be a high of 103 this week...no big deal.

In the meantime we're supposed to learn to adapt to this poor folk living & drink plenty of water so we don't end up dying of heat stroke or looking like this:

Yeah, we totally rock that underwear around that house too.
Good news is we noticed the house tends to get really cool around midnight - 5am. Five hours of comfortable sleep? Awesome!

--------------

This weekend wasn't all bad though. We took the god-kids to see the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus, which luckily was very air conditioned, and had lots fun.

You see the photos in the right & left top hand side? Those are girls in bubbles. For real, I sat there with my mouth agape thinking how awesome it would be to be able to do a fucking leg lift without pulling a hamstring & there they were in a bubble, hundreds of fee of the floor, doing all kinds of artsy splits.

Show offs.

Here's a (pretty long) video of the acrobatic Troupe Scala performing some of their pretty freakin' impressive flips & jumps.

The most impressive, IMO? Go to the 3:10 mark & watch.

How was your weekend?

  1. Ew! Hang in there with the heat! We've had our share of air conditioner problems this year and it's definitley no fun.

  2. I had my windows open all weekend because it was maybe 60 degrees. I've noticed some leaves are starting to fall from the trees. I went to SoCal last September. The 85 degrees factor made it the best 3 days of my adult life.

  3. Ugh. Yeah, it is no bueno to go without A/C in July. When Mr. BFG and I were dating (read: sleeping together), his A/C went out in the dead of summer. He fixed it with a cup, a pencil and duct tape.

Hope y'all get it replaced soon!

  4. Oh gosh that sounds horrible! Well, at least you had fun at the circus :)

p.s I emailed you about something! It should be from melissadawn90@gmail.com. So watch out for it in case it gets lost in your spam or something. Technology can be weird like that.

  5. Yuck, being hot without AC is THE WORST. I don't normally have to deal with this though because it's not like Seattle is the hottest place around. :)

  6. Ugh! I would DIE A SLOW AND PAINFUL MISERABLE DEATH if I didn't have air conditioning. Probably.

  7. Oh, poor Lin! We had the same problem last summer (but it's just Ohio!) and David suffered so much!
I am not sure if you heard about that but the animals in their circus live under terrible conditions, they abuse the animals. It is really terrible.
