Favorite Movie Tuesday

This movie is for all my fellow 80's movie lovers...

"Shocking, Shameless, Sinful, Wicked. And the party hasn't even started."

Bachelor Party premiered in 1984 and stars the very funny Tom Hanks & Tawny Kitaen (back when she was hot & didn't look like a crack head). I don't exactly remember when I first watched this movie but I'm pretty sure I was around 12 years old & it was when we first got cable television. I'm also pretty sure the fact there are strippers & a donkey in this movie is what may have made it that much more memorable....definitely not something a 12 year old should be watching but whatever.

I don't think I fully understood everything that was going on in the movie (a girl & donkey at a party, a chick in a dress peeing while standing...?) at that time but I sure did when I re-watched it 5 years later! Not only was this movie hilarious but some might even suggest it's crude & disturbing, you know all the things that usually happen during bachelor parties.

Tom Hanks is fabulously funny, much like all his old roles...all he seems to stick to now are serious roles, and the supporting cast (all of his friends) only make the movie even funnier. I don't think I can narrow it down to just one favorite part but I think it's hilarious when Debbie's chubby uptight friend, Dr. Tina Gassko, volunteers to take one for the team & stays in the hotel room with all of the Asian business men who think she's a prostitute. She acts like she's going to do it so they can get out but then throws herself at the men once they leave, ha ha.
If you're in the mood for an oldie but {trashy sex comedy} goodie I suggest you rent this movie because it's one of the best. Actually, I don't know for sure, but I think The Hangover may have been made with this movie in mind so if you liked The Hangover you'll definitely like this classic!

Rick Gassko is about to marry Debbie Thompson. Her parents hate him. Her old boyfriend hates him. They all have money and he gets a cut of the crap games on the catholic school bus he drives. His friends decide to give him the bachelor party of all bachelor parties with an expensive hotel, booze, movies and hookers. As the players catch wind of the elements of the party, each adds a little monkey wrench so that one set of hookers ends up giving demos at the bride's shower, the brides friends end up dressed as hookers in a room with a number of non English speaking Japanese business men, and so on as things get out of hand

  • Jim Carrey, Howie Mandel, and Tim Robbins were all considered for the role of Rick. Julia Louis-Dreyfus was considered for the role of Debbie.

  • Both Kelly McGillis and Paul Reiser were originally considered for the lead-roles early in production but were replaced due to lack of chemistry between the actors.
  • Kelly McGillis had originally secured the female lead, but was fired early in the shoot because she wasn't considered to be pretty or sexy enough.
  • According to the DVD, this film was inspired by the actual bachelor party thrown for producer Bob Israel.

  • Bachelor Party grossed over $38 million in North America.

  • The dead donkey in the hotel elevator scene is a tribute/ripoff of the dead horse in the dean's office in Animal House.
