Favorite Movie Tuesday

This weeks' favorite movie is a must have in every one's collection.

This movie became one of my all time faves from the first time I watched it. Forrest Gump in one of those movies that takes you on a roller coaster of emotions. And you better bet your a*s that you're going to ball throughout this movie, whether its out of happiness or sadness, your eyes will leak.

Forrest Gump premiered in 1994 & stars the fabulously talented
Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinis, Mykelti Williamson, and Sally Field. The cast does amazingly well together, Gary Sinis played a fantastic Army vet with a chip on his shoulder. Robin Wright...she is definitely one of the many actresses who doesn't get the credit she deserves. She did an amazing job playing the issue stricken Jenny. And even though Mykelti Williamson & Sally Field didn't have the largest of parts in the movie, they too were fabulous supporting actors.

I love the fact that this movie chronicles one mans journey through life, a life that no one thought he'd be able to have. It's truly an inspirational story...even if it is fiction.

Movie synopsis:
A man with a low IQ has accomplished great things in his life and been present during significant histor
ic events - in each case, far exceeding what anyone imagined he could do. Yet, despite all the things he has attained, his one true love eludes him. "Forrest Gump" is the story of a man who rose above his challenges, and who proved that determination, courage, and love are more important than ability.

Movie Trivia:
  • Bill Murray, John Travolta and Chevy Chase turned down the role of Forrest Gump.
  • David Alan Grier, Ice Cube and Dave Chappelle turned down the role of Bubba. Chappelle thought the movie would bomb, and has since admitted to deeply regretting not taking the role.
  • The Vietnam scenes of the film were shot on what is now the Ocean Creek Golf Course on Fripp Island, SC.
  • Gary Sinise's lower legs were wrapped in a special blue fabric that allowed them to be optically removed from the film by computer later.
  • Tom Hanks' younger brother Jim Hanks doubled for him in many of his numerous running sequences.
  • Tom Hanks patterned his accent after Michael Conner Humphreys (young Forrest) who actually talked that way.
  • The necklace worn by Lt. Dan is a rosary with a Saint Christopher medal, inscribed "Protect Us In Combat". It was worn in Vietnam by Gary Sinise's brother-in-law, Jack Treese, in 1967-68.
  • Tom Hanks said that he would make the film only if all the events that took place were true to historical reality.
  • The girl in the school bus with the red hair is Tom Hanks's daughter Elizabeth Hanks.
  • The line, "My name is Forrest Gump. People call me Forrest Gump," was ad libbed by Tom Hanks while filming the scene and director Robert Zemeckis liked it so much that he decided to keep it in.
  • The disco and strip scenes were shot in the Ambassador Hotel, Los Angeles, California, as was the archive footage (1968) of Robert F. Kennedy, after he won the California Primary. RFK was gunned down in the kitchen of the Ambassador Hotel just minutes later.
  • During the ping-pong matches, there was no ball; it was entirely CGI, animated to meet the actors' paddles.
  • Tom Hanks wasn't paid for the film. Instead he took percentage points which ultimately netted him in the region of $40 million.
  • Every still picture of Forrest during this film shows Tom Hanks with his eyes closed.
  • One of the songs that plays during Forrest's cross-country run is "Against the Wind." Appropriately, that song is also about a man whose long-term love, a girl named Jenny, has left him.
