Not All Monsters Live In The Closet...

Sometimes they live next door, down the street, go to your church, babysit your children or are even apart of your family.

As a child you never imagine that a monster can actually resemble a human being, you think they have green skin, warts on their face & have gnarly teeth but that's not true at all. As I've gotten older I've begun to realize that it's a scary world & what's even worse is that these real life monsters are everywhere, you just don't notice them.

Recently I've given a lot of thought to having a baby. It's a thought that's always been in the back of my mind but recently it's been pushing itself to the front of the line. I've always wanted to be a mom but the thought of having a part of me & the man I love out there in the dangerous world stops me from tossing out that good 'ol birth control.

I'm in a field of work where I get an iside look at the crimes that happen every day. People get stabbed at baseball games, teenagers get beat up for crappy IPods & cell phones, children get abused by negligent parents & spouses beat up on their partner because it makes them feel good about themselves. It's a scary world...

This woman for example:

She's 29 years old, has a daughter, was a Sunday School teacher at her church and is the granddaughter of a Baptist pastor. She's a pretty, normal sounding woman except for the fact that her name is Melissa Huckaby and she just pleaded guilty to the death of 8 year old Sandra Cantu.

This story got a lot of publicity so I'm sure most of you have heard about it. Sandra Cantu was last seen at Melissa's house, playing with Melissa's 5 year old daughter. She was a person 8 year old Sandra trusted not to harm her but she did.

Melissa plead guilty to the charges of murder, kidnapping, lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14, and rape by instrument today in order to have Prosecutors drop the death penalty in the case. She will face a sentence of 25 years to life in prison without parole when she is sentenced June 14. I hope she gets life in prison because that little girl deserved to grow up, attend her first school dance, go on her first date, graduate from high school & live a normal life.

It's definitely a scary world so be wary of who you allow around your children, don't make them shut ins or anything but just be smart about it, you can never be to cautious.

As for me & kids...well that idea has just been shoved back to about 20th in line for now. We'll see how far the idea has pushed itself forward again in another 6 months.

Read more about the case here.

  1. having a child is possibly one of the scariest things in the world
there is no way to ever guarantee their safety 100% of the time

but jeez they are worth the fear! and you will find that the fierceness you need to protect them is there inside you whether you need it or now

as for other people, the monsters, unfortunately they exist and as parents we can only do our best to spot them

  2. I hate to hear about things like this...especially as a mother. Its hard, it makes you want to keep the kid locked in the house and never allow them around people. Its horrible to think that there are people like this in the world, but the reality of it is there are.

All you can do is hug your baby close, keep your eyes on them constantly and go with your gut...if something/someone feels wrong they are...and you dont have to explain because you are the Mommy! :)

On the other hand having a baby has been one of the scariest/horrible(pregnancy)/confusing/tiring/overwelming/rewarding/happiest, most amazing things that I have ever done. He is the best part of me.. But dont do it until you are 100% ready. I think one of the best ways to sum it up is a quote that I love!

" Making a decision to have a child--it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body." Elizbeth Stone

Sorry I know I got on a roll...but its midnight Im tired...:)

  3. That's terrible! How can someone do that? I don't understand people like that.

Before Lil Mootz was even born, I had a chat with him. I told him that the world is full of ugly and mean people. That there is a lot of evil out there. That because of this his Daddy can't be with us for the first 9 months. I told him that he will see bad things in his life.

I also told him that there is a lot of beauty and good in our world. That for every bad person, there are at least 2 who just want to make our world a better place. That there are so many more men and women just like his daddy that will fight, and even sacrifice their lives to make the world a better place. I told him that all the good and beauty that he will see during his life will far outweight all the bad.

    And I believe that.

  4. That is so unbelievably scary. And yes, I worry about my kids constantly. It never stops.

  5. That case is so scary I don't even understand it. Crazy. There are a million reasons to not have kids but you only need one good one. Just like you said you want a little part of you and hubby walking around. I know it's hard but it's so worth it!

  6. Right there with you! It's frightening! They come in all shapes and sizes. We have to do something!!!!

I love Holly. She's the best. And I'm so jealous about your Shrek party...we are going to see it though. Can't wait!!

    Lots of yummy love,
