MassMutual Scholars Program: Money For School

School's expensive, we all know this. So when I was contacted by MassMutual about spreading the word on an amazing scholarship program they have going on I was more than happy to post about it.

MassMutual Financial Group has a Mulit-Cultural Scholars Program that will give $5000 to 27 students that qualify for the program. The deadline for applications is May 30, 2010 so if you meet the following criteria or know someone who does please take advantage of this great opportunity & apply, as they still have not had sufficient applicants (really guys...this is free money!).

To be eligible, applicants must:
  • Be of African-American/Black, Asian/Pacific Islander or Hispanic descent;
  • Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident with a permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 (not expired);
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; Have plans to attend full-time a degree-seeking program at a U.S. accredited institution in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, or Guam during the 2010-2011 academic year;
  • Be entering sophomore, junior, senior or fifth-year-senior at a four-year university or be a community college student;
  • Reside or plan to attend an institution in one of the following metropolitan areas: Atlanta, Ga.; Denver, Colo.; Houston, Texas; Los Angeles, Calif.; San Francisco, Calif.; Central New Jersey; Chicago, Ill.; Miami, Fla. Or San Antonio, Texas;
  • Be majoring in business, economics, finance, financial planning, management, marketing or sales;
  • Demonstrate leadership and extra-curricular activities;
  • and Apply for federal financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). (apply for FAFSA here)

Program Description:

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund administers the MassMutual Scholars Program in partnership with UNCF and the Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF). The MassMutual Scholars Program is funded by the MassMutual Financial Group, and is focused on expanding access and opportunity of higher education and employment to citizens who reflect the rich cultural diversity of our nation. MassMutual seeks to increase the number of minority students completing college nationally and raising awareness of our national agencies and careers in financial services.

In 2010, MassMutual looks forward to assisting full time students entering their sophomore, junior, senior or fifth-year senior year of college (maximum $5,000 each) with over $135,000 in scholarships.
