Favorite Movie Tuesday

This weeks' movie pick is

I adore this movie! Sweet Home Alabama is one of my all time faves. It seriously ranks up near the top 5, aside from it being the first movie Rusty ever bought me it's one of the cutest most heart warming movies. It makes my heart get all mushy & that's not just because I'm swooning over hot piece Patrick Dempsey or cutie Josh Lucas.

The movie stars Reese Witherspoon as Sophisticated Melanie Carmichael, a rising New York clothing designer who suddenly finds herself engaged to the city's most eligible bachelor, Andrew. But this is no fairy tale romance for Melanie. She has skeletons in her fashion-filled closet that include Jake - the backwoods husband she married in high school who refuses to divorce her. Determined to end their marriage and sever all ties with her past once and for all, Melanie returns to Alabama. But home starts to tug at her heartstrings, and what she thought she wanted may not be what she wants at all.

My favorite part of the movie? When Melanie goes back to Alabama & hangs out with all her old friends at the country fair. It's the part of the movie where she's finally not judging anyone & finally lets loose. I can watch this movie over & over & over again and never get tired of it.

The only problem with this movie is that after watching it I find myself speaking with a southern accent, lol.

Movie Trivia
  1. Two dogs mentioned in the movie, "Bear" and "Bryant", are references to legendary University of Alabama head football coach Paul 'Bear' Bryant.
  2. Charlize Theron was originally cast as Melanie Carmichael, but due to the actor's strike, she jumped to a ready-to-go movie Trapped (2002). Reese Witherspoon was cast the same weekend that Legally Blonde (2001) opened.
  3. The first movie to be allowed to shoot in New York after the 11 September 2001 attacks.
  4. Jake's plane lands on Lake Peachtree in Peachtree City, Georgia. It is illegal to land a plane on Lake Peachtree, and the Peachtree City Police issued the movie company a $300 ticket.
  5. The glass featured as "Deep South Glass" is actually hand-blown glass, made by a company named Simon Pearce. Simon Pearce is based in Vermont, and was started by an actual Simon Pearce who emigrated to the US from Waterford, Ireland.
  6. Earl asks Pearl to pull the bologna cake out of the freezer when Melanie announces her engagement. This tasty item came to the film as a dish served to one of the (many) script re-writers by his fiancée, who was from Indiana. It is bologna, cream cheese and horseradish.

  1. First, I have to say that I've never seen the movie. Even though I live in Alabama. I know, I know...what can I say, I'm just really not big on romantic movies! Second....UGH! I had no idea that there were dogs in the movie, much less that their names were from *that* university. See, here in the South, we take our football very seriously. VERY seriously. I'm an Auburn alum, and I have to say I'd rather remove my pinky toe with a garden hoe than cheer for Bama. That said...hope the movie didn't make us all out to be crazy rednecks! We aren't, I swear! (Well, maybe the Bama fans are... ;) )
