Favorite Movie Tuesday

I can't believe I haven't done a FMT post in 2 weeks, wow. But, I'm here & ready to post about another one of my faves.

I have this huge list of movies I'm a fan of but it's so difficult to decide which ones are actually post worthy. I was reading over my list this morning & I usually tend to pick the one's that I've seen more than 4-5 times & I decided to go with this romantic comedy:

This movie was released in December of 2008 & stars Jim Carrey & Zooey Deschanel. I've always been a pretty big fan of Jim Carrey's so I'll admit that he's done some pretty bad movies but this one is not one of them.

I think it may have something to do with Zooey Deschanel's cuteness, lol. She seriously does not get the credit she deserves, although I hear she did a fab job in (500) Days of Summer.

This movie is about Carl Allen. Carl seems to have no real future... until the day he enrolls into a personal development program based on a very simple idea: say YES to everything! Carl discovers with amazement the magical power of "Yes", and sees his professional and romantic life turned upside down overnight: an unexpected promotion and a new girlfriend. But he'll soon discover that it's not always such a good idea to always say 'Yes', and that all opportunities shouldn't be taken.

I really liked this movie because it shows a loser of a guy, still hung up on his ex, getting out there & trying all the things he never would have (ie; bungee jumping, learning a new language, online dating, fighting, dressing up for a Harry Potter party & learning to fly a plane). It has a lot of comedy in it & of course a wonderful little love story with an "aww" ending.

Two of my favorite parts of the movie are when Carl saves some dude from jumping off a building by singing Third Eye Blinds' song Jumper (you cant help but sing along) & when he & Allison are at the Hollywood Bowl & he sings The Beatles song Cant Buy Me Love (such a cute scene). I must also warn you that there is a pretty icky part where Carl says yes to a "message" from his old lady neighbor...so not cool...yet still pretty funny.

Here's the trailer for your viewing pleasure:

Movie trivia:
  • Jim Carrey performed his own bungee jump stunts.
  • Jim Carrey declined an upfront salary for this film. Instead he will be paid 36.2% of the film's profits.
  • Jack Black was originally considered for the lead role.
  • There are multiple references to Harry Potter in the film. David Heyman, one of the film's producers, also produces the Harry Potter films.
  • Just like his character, Jim Carrey said "yes" to many things during the production of this movie. He indeed truly played the guitar, learned basic Korean, rode a sport bike and bungee-jumped. He however had to say "no" for the body blading scene.
  • The fictional band "Munchausen By Proxy" featured in the film was composed of actress/singer/songwriter Zooey Deschanel and the real-life band "Von Iva".
  • While filming the scene in the bar where Carl runs into a waitress and falls on his back, Jim Carrey did the stunt incorrectly, fell to the floor harder than he expected, and broke three ribs in the process.

  1. I've never seen this movie! I just adore Zooey Deschanel so that alone is a reason to see it!

  2. I haven't seen this yet, I'll have to get it though. I usually love JC's movies, even with the few in there that weren't that great. *lol* I think Zooey is too adorable for words!

We went throught he same thing with our niece and nephew -before going home at Christmas, we hadn't seen them in over a year. Before that we were stationed at Fort Hood, so we were only 4 hours away, but we only got to see them a few times.
